One of
the most important people in the success of the Patches show was probably seen the least
by the viewers. Joe Towey directed the show (after Jack Armstrong) for 23
years.
Joe did appear occasionally on the
show as fictional director "Sam Gefeltafish", handyman "Mal
Content" and J.P.s evil brother "I.M. Rags".
But, Patches Pals who were up
past their bedtime on Friday night probably remember Joe as the host of KIROs Nightmare
Theater. Every Friday night, Joe as "The Count", would rise from his coffin
and, with an outrageously campy, Bela Lugosi accent, introduce classic (?) horror and science
fiction movies
Joe Towey passed away in 1989.

"Who, when he saw the first sand or ashes, by a casual intenseness of heat, melted into a metalline form, rugged with excrescences, and clouded with impurities, would have imagined, that in this shapeless mass would turn into smething useful like a glass? Neat huh? I mean without glasses we couldn't see or have anything to put Kool-Aid in!
